The Council of State Governments
Reentry Policy Council
ON FAITH BASED REENTRY
"State and local governments alone cannot provide the full range of services and support that people released from prison and jails need to succeed in the community. State and local governments will need to draw on the resources and expertise of the individuals and the community and faith based organizations based in the neighborhoods where people released from prison and jail return."

At the Origins of the American
Correctional Association
PEOPLE OF FAITH
The American Correctional Association was founded in 1870 as the
National Prison Reform
Association. This association was born
through a vision for prison reform from among the
Christian churches.
The founder
of the NPRA was Rev. Enoch Cobb Wines. In 1886, former
President Rutherford B. Hayes [pictured] spoke of the vision and
leadership of that
generation of clergy who began the correctional reform movement
in
America... rest of story.

Horizon Dorm participant receives certificate of completion for “The Seven Principles of Success” seminar
The Horizon Inter-Faith Program at Marion Correctional Institution began in 2001 as a ministry of Kairos Prison Ministry International. During a 9-month cycle lasting from August to June, 48 residents live in religiously integrated cubicle “families” and participate in programs that further inter-faith understanding. In addition, the program seeks to promote personal spiritual and developmental growth.
Doctoral-level research seeking to assess Horizon’s impact on recidivism is currently under way
